Why Vegan?

If we can nourish ourselves without harming others, why wouldn’t we?

Everyone has a story when they have a tipping point that changes their life, hopefully for the better. Our passion is what started our journey and is what is now known today as Vegatier Express.

In 2016 we embarked on meditation practices and our heart guided us to take the most loving and compassionate path in life, which also meant that we embraced a vegan lifestyle. We went vegan overnight from full omnivore to vegan. We just decided, "On this date, we will be vegan," and we did it. We went vegan for a purpose, and it was just the beginning. Now, a little over 8 years, it’s become much more than that. We see the importance of going vegan due to ethical issues. Animals are being tortured, slaughtered, & killed every single day for our consumption. We don’t know about you, but that energy doesn’t appeal to us in any way. When it comes to the environment, plant-based living is also a more sustainable way of eating. A plant-based diet requires only one third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet.

Our mission to show folks that you can tread lightly on earth, be kind to all creatures and nourish your body without harming others all while enjoying yummy, comfort food. We are two people who love to experiment with food, and we love creating new recipes and trying new things to see what we can create! Our Friday nights and weekend were spent traveling to Whole Foods in Wexford, PA for ingredients that would create some not so good and some amazingly delicious vegan mock meals like Candice Hutchings the Edgy Veg creates! Look her up on Youtube, she creates vegan meals with attitude!

Not only were our new food creations satisfying, hearty, full of flavor, and straight-up delicious, they were as easy to make as any other meal. With limitation came inspiration, and before we knew it, a vegan lifestyle had become one of the best decisions we had ever made!

It’s all about the Cheese!

We lost count at how many family and friends would say “I could never go Vegan, I’d miss cheese”. So they would entertain being vegan, but love cheese? We totally get it. Before we made the transition, we were cheese-loving omnivores, and never heard the word “Vegan”. It’s kind of silly if you think about it. First of all, going vegan doesn’t mean you don’t get to have cheese anymore, just no dairy cheese. There are tons of wonderful vegan cheese options out there, from popular and moderately priced shreds and slices, fancy, artisanal aged nut-cheeses, and plenty of amazing homemade recipes. We are pretty content with the amount of cheese we enjoy on a vegan diet. Especially our own recipe…a heart healthy vegan cheese that is very similar to nacho cheese. A savory and slightly smoky Vegan cheese alternative. Made with no nuts, no oil, no starch, no corn, no soy and no dairy! Made with real food ingredients!

We Trademarked our Cheese!

We love making vegan cheese! There’s not one veggie, seed or nut that we haven’t tried to turn into cheese! We love making a sharp cream cheese made with raw cashews, blended with water, and then fermented with probiotics. We make this a lot and nearly every week. Its so good that we wanted to share with everyone, but the more we tried to share there were a lot that were allergic to nuts. We also make a Vegan nacho cheese sauce using Rolled oats and red peppers along with herbs and spices, its nacho cheese perfection! It’s so creamy, rich, and Versatile. We wanted to share with the world, so we hired a patent attorney and filed for a trademark for the cheese.

After several testing with Cornel University, we were very disappointed to be told that our vegan cheese would only be shelf stable in supermarket if we added a preservative. If we kept the ingredients “as is” then the shelf life would only be good for two weeks. We definitely did not want to add any preservatives, we wanted to keep it healthy. Disappointed, but not discouraged, we decided to share our cheese by buying a food truck where we could sell our cheese and offer a fun culinary experience with familiar dishes that were transformed into a Vegan cuisine, like Vegan Chili, Chili Cheese Dogs, Beef & Cheddar, BBQ Chicken sandwiches, BBQ Chicken Nuggets, Nacho Chili & Cheese and Mac & Cheese!

Vegatier Express is born!

In 2019 we purchased our Food Trailer. We fell in love with the Food Trailer idea and all its crazy, spontaneous, fly by the seat of your pants energy. Our plan was underway until the Pandemic of 2020. COVID-19 pandemic caused the world to shut down, the dream of opening the food trailer was put on hold. Once everything opened back up, the dream continued, and the production of the food trailer was slowly under way, but not until 2023.

In 2022, while waiting on the production of the food truck and in classic “dive in and figure it out later” fashion, we were offered to “take over a kitchen”, from a local vegan cafe, Ely’s To Go. Fast forward a year and half later it was time to jump into our dream of opening up our food trailer.

2024 came around and we are now the proud owners of Vegatier Express: Plant-Based Food Trailer! We continue our mission to change the world, one plate of Chili Cheese Dogs and Nachos at a time!

Our mission here at Vegatier Express is to promote cruelty-free meals along with an empathetic and benevolent point of view towards the lives we lead and those we spare – And to share this compassionate journey with our community, friends and our family. Our passion is to help surrounding communities by empowering them with food they love and enjoy, while also supporting a healthy lifestyle.

Be sure to follow our journey. We look forward to someday sharing our food with you!
